From a physical showcase to a shared virtual world

A global cultural event needs to reach people well beyond its venue. This case study looks at how the Saudi Arabia World Expo experience translated a physical showcase into an accessible digital world.

Key takeaways

  • Three cultural worlds create a clear structure for exploration.

  • Meta Quest, desktop and mobile access broaden participation.

  • A virtual experience can extend a physical showcase beyond its venue.

Take the story beyond the venue

A global cultural showcase needs to reach people who may never visit its physical venue. For the Saudi Arabia World Expo project, the challenge was to translate a place-based story into a shared digital experience.

The virtual world needed to feel like more than a remote viewing platform. Its environments had to give visitors a reason to explore, while the experience remained accessible across different devices.

Build three worlds around one identity

Tinkr shaped the experience around three distinct cultural worlds. Each environment could carry its own atmosphere while still belonging to one broader story and identity.

This structure gives visitors a sense of progression and discovery. Instead of presenting every message at once, the experience can invite people to move through spaces and encounter the story in context.

Make access part of the experience

The project was designed for Meta Quest, desktop and mobile access. Supporting multiple platforms makes the experience available to people with different devices and levels of familiarity with immersive technology.

Cross-platform access also changes how a virtual world should be planned. Interaction, navigation and visual detail must remain understandable whether someone is using a headset or a standard screen.

What a shared digital world can do

A shared digital world can extend the life and reach of a physical showcase. It gives audiences another way to encounter cultural stories and offers a format that can be explored beyond the limits of a venue.

The strongest results come when the digital experience is designed around the story first, then adapted thoughtfully to each platform. Technology expands the possibilities, but the content gives visitors a reason to stay.
